Description

The creation of University of Louisiana at Monroe professors and writers Dev Hathaway and Herbert Bryant, “Beer and Bards” began in 1984 at Enoch’s, then located on Desiard Street, as an opportunity for ULM faculty and students to read their poems, stories, essays and plays. “It will be great fun to bring the reading series back,” said Jack Heflin, professor of English and co-director of Creative Writing at ULM. “Over the years, we’ve had hundreds of writers participate, many of whom went on to publish significant work, including John Dufresne, Cleopatra Mathis, Paul Lyons, Andy Robbins, Donald Junkins and Doug Stanton, just to name a few.” Heflin is host of the event, and the author of two books of poetry, the most recent Local Hope (The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Press).
